5 Best Logistics Stocks To Buy For 2015

The implementation of a fully-operational oil pipeline in Fujairah, writes April Yee, of The National, provides more flexibility and an increase of storage space.

A pipeline connecting a major oil products terminal with the Port of Fujairah is now operational, allowing the emirate to further expand its oil logistics industry.

Last week, Vopak Horizon Fujairah inaugurated a set of pipelines that connect oil product storage tanks to extra berths at the port.

That allows the joint venture of a Dutch company and Emirates National Oil Company to offload products onto 11 tankers at once, four more than by just using its on-site jetty.

his project was really for us to connect to the port to give us more flexibility to use the infrastructure in the port, said Yusr Hussain Sultan Al Junaidy, the chief executive of Horizon Terminals, the oil products storage company that Emirates National Oil Company owns.

The pipeline connection is the latest development along Fujairah's rapidly-expanding coastline, where construction cranes and hard hats line a narrow stretch of land between the mountains and the sea.

Finally, I always like to see one of the most important financial ratios applying to stockholders, the best measure of performance for a firm's management: the return on equity. The ratio has decreased when compared to its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a signal of major weakness. Moreover, it is worse than those shown in the table like Aegion Corporation (AEGN), EnerNOC Inc. (ENOC), MYR GroupInc. (MYRG) and Pike Corporation (PIKE).

Pacific Ethanol, Inc. was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Sacramento, California.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Tristan R. Brown]

Three months ago I wrote that the stock performance YTD of independent ethanol producer Pacific Ethanol (PEIX) was an "aberration", especially in light of the performance of its industry peers' shares. The discrepancy between Pacific Ethanol's share price and those of its peers has only grown more pronounced since July (see figure). Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) and REX American Resources (REX) have continued to greatly outperform the S&P 500. Even Biofuel Energy, which fell behind on its interest and debt payments over the summer and is facing a shareholder-ruining liquidation, has seen its share price perform significantly better than Pacific Ethanol's in 2013. The oddest part about the stock's performance over the last three months, however, is that the period has been marked by multiple positive announcements from the company. It late July it reported its first positive EPS in almost two years for Q2 (0.07). Its Q2 EBITDA of $3.8 million was its highest since Q4 2011. Its current ratio is well above its previous lows, its ratio of total assets to total liabilities is increasing, and its total shareholders' equity is at a 3-year high. Despite these improvements, the company's price/book ratio is a mere 0.77.

  • [By Jake L'Ecuyer]

Energy shares dropped by 0.26 percent in the US market today. Among the sector stocks, Endeavour International (NYSE: END) was down more than 5.6 percent, while Pacific Ethanol (NASDAQ: PEIX) tumbled around 2.2 percent.

Ethanol producers and farmers are the losers and the RFA is steaming mad. Have you ever noticed how the worst time to get into a stock is when the buzz is the loudest, while the best time to sneak into a stock is when nobody's talking about it? Yeah, well, you can add Pacific Ethanol Inc. (NASDAQ:PEIX) to the list of names that's pretty much fooled everyone, then, and now. PEIX was all the rage five years ago, and ended up getting trashed between 2007 and 2008. Despite repeated attempts to get, multiple headaches for the ethanol industry just never let the stock pick itself up. Now, a full year after anybody stopped caring about the stock (bearishly or bullishly), and Pacific Ethanol has quietly doled out a huge 200% gain since November.

Top 5 Semiconductor Companies To Own For 2014

Investors are now just a couple of months away from Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) presumed "iPhone 5S" September launch, which means that the chorus of rumors has reached a deafening crescendo. There are two somewhat conflicting rumors right now as to what the iPhone 5S launch will look like.

A tale of two Taiwanese publications
DIGITIMES is saying that the iPhone 5S may see some early supply constraints due to low yields for the fingerprint-recognition chips and LCD components. Low yields have supposedly pushed back commercial production of those key ingredients into later this month, whereas they should have begun in late June to early July to meet Apple's September schedule. Taiwan Semiconductor is producing the fingerprint-recognition chips.

The Taiwanese publication's anonymous tipsters say that 3 million units will have to be delayed into the fourth quarter, which isn't necessarily too long since that would just mean pushing back a month into October. Total iPhone shipments, including all models, are estimated at 30 million units. That last figure may seem low compared to the nearly 50 million iPhones sold last holiday quarter, but remember that it's just one questionable data point that doesn't give much insight into Apple's global supply chain or address things like starting inventory positions or third-party channel inventory.

Shares of graphics chip and processor maker NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA  ) -- which I recently highlighted as a great dividend you can buy right now -- advanced 3.1% after announcing plans to license its graphics technology. Specifically, NVIDIA plans to license its Kepler architecture, which could give it a way to get into America's best-selling smartphone and tablet, made by Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) . What will be interesting is to see if Apple will bite, given that it designs its own processor technology for the iPhone and iPad. However, without the need to use the entire processing system, companies like Apple could pick and choose what they want to license, giving both companies a potential win-win scenario.

  • [By Adam Levine-Weinberg]

For years, bears have worried that graphics chip specialist NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA  ) would be crushed by two trends. First, the improvement of integrated graphics processors from Inteland Advanced Micro Devices was expected to make NVIDIA's "discrete" GPUs all but obsolete. Second, bears expected NVIDIA to suffer (along with the rest of the PC industry) from the cannibalization of PCs by tablets.

5 Best Wireless Telecom Stocks To Buy Right Now

By MATTHEW INDYKE and BRIAN ZEN
Best Buy (BBY) was once the darling of the electronics retail industry, having found great success selling technology products and services in stores across the world. It thrived on its technology products and superior customer service led by its self-described eek squad. The retailer particularly thrived when it shifted from a product-based model to a service-oriented model. Best Buy's industry dominance appeared secure when then-archrival Circuit City declared bankruptcy and liquidated in 2009. Furthermore, in its industry, Best Buy had a stronghold over the smaller corner stores like Radio Shack.

But declining movie and CD sales, along with consumers' diminishing desire for more giant televisions, caught up with Best Buy. The company now finds itself competing as a big box retailer in a business that is rapidly going online. As investors, what we want to know is: Is Best Buy the latest brick-and-mortar retailer headed for the exits or do they have what it takes to compete with online retailers selling similar products?

That didn't take long. Just months after finally getting the iPhone in its lineup, Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) device is already surging at T-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS  ) .

T-Mobile provides valuable communications products to consumers and companies who are eager to connect with people and companies around the world. The stock has been on a bullish run since its initial public offering and is not yet displaying any signs of slowing. A rumored acquisition of the company could also fuel a move higher for the company. Over the last four quarters, earnings have been mixed while revenue figures have been on the rise. Relative to its peers and sector, T-Mobile has been a year-to-date performance leader. Look for T-Mobile to OUTPERFORM.

Also after hours, shares ofSprint (NYSE: S  ) andT-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS  ) were both heading north on reports that the two were close to an agreement on a merger. Like the Amazon smartphone, a merger between the nation's Nos. 3 and 4 wireless outlets has been floated around the media before, and with Verizonand AT&Tcontrolling the vast majority of the wireless market, an alliance seems natural. According to early rumors, Sprint would pay near $40 a share for T-Mobile, which closed at $34.28 today and gained 3% after hours. Consolidation in the telecom industry has been fast-paced in recent years, most recently with AT&T'sacquisition of DirecTV, and, last year,T-Mobilealso acquired MetroPCS. With this story just breaking, T-Mobile shares could easily move higher as investors anticipate that the merger will go through. Sprint shares were up 4% after hours.

Verizon's potential buyout of Vodafone's (NASDAQ: VOD  ) stake in the companies' joint wireless venture could make it difficult to accurately assess Verizon's long-term outlook. Verizon has long been trying to resolve underlying control issues with the British telecom powerhouse, which owns a 45% stake in Verizon Wireless. There have even been talks of Verizon buying Vodafone's stake outright in the world's largest leveraged buyout. This would leapfrog Verizon over many competitors in the global telecom race, but at the price of adding a massive debt overhang to its already hefty debt commitments.

David Paul Morris/Bloomberg via Getty Images NEW YORK -- It's not often that Wall Street shrugs off what amounts to a 30 percent price hike for an asset inside of four months. But that is what happened to Verizon Communications (VZ) when news broke that it is in talks to buy out Vodafone Group (VOD) 45 percent stake in their U.S. wireless venture for up to $130 billion, up from the $100 billion price range that it was considering back in April. Verizon shares closed 2.7 percent higher Thursday as investors took in stride the prospect of the company taking on tens of billions of dollars in debt to fund such a deal. For years, Verizon has made no secret of its ambitions to own all of Verizon Wireless -- the top U.S. mobile service provider -- because it has the best customer growth rate and profitability of any telecom company in the country. But concern around overpaying for an asset that it already controls has always gotten in the way. Analysts saw three big motivating factors to support a deal now: rising interest rates, rapidly intensifying competition and a 12 percent drop in Verizon's shares since April. If these trends continue, and analysts expect they will, a deal gets that much more expensive for Verizon to pull off. "With interest rates rising, Verizon and Vodafone are cognizant of the fact that they have a narrow window to get this deal done," said New Street analyst Jonathan Chaplin. Vodafone has confirmed it is in talks with Verizon but declined to give details. Verizon declined to comment. The U.S. Federal Reserve has said it expects to begin scaling back its monthly purchases of government and mortgage-backed debt with an aim to eventually ending the practice next year. The expectation that this policy shift may come as soon as September has already lifted long-term interest rates. In such a rate environment, a deal for Verizon Wireless will only get more expensive the longer Verizon waits. Already, Verizon can expect to pay several hu

West Marine (Nasdaq: WMAR) is an undervalued retailer.  The company is going through a change in focus from a bricks and mortar boat product retailer to a fully integrated retail and wholesale business through bricks and clicks, targeting the boating and water enthusiast customer.   Recent results have been affected by a severe rainy and cool spring which hurt boat usage and delayed the start of the season.  The company has accelerated cash investments to build larger more productive stores and expand its ecommerce abilities, consequently affecting free cash flow short term.  The stock lacks sponsorship as there is only one research report written on the company by a small boutique firm.  The stock trades at only book value despite the company being the leading industry player with a solid balance sheet and significant net cash position.

As we head towards Black Friday, small cap specialty retail stocks United Online, Inc (NASDAQ: UNTD), TravelCenters of America LLC (NYSE: TA) and MarineMax, Inc (NYSE: HZO) have the distinction of being the best performing small capspecialty retail stocks for this year (according to Finviz.com) with gains of 181.2%, 123.8% and 71.8%, respectively. Here is what new and existing investors and traders alike need to know or consider:

United Online, Inc.A provider of consumer products and services over the Internet, United Online Content & Media segment services are online nostalgia (Memory Lane) and online loyalty marketing (MyPoints) while itsprimary Communications segment services are Internet access and email (NetZero and Juno). BlueOrange Studio/Shutterstock One day out of 365, we pay homage to our sainted mothers. Those of us who are members of this long-suffering, uncomplaining, self-sacrificing class may get some soggy French toast in bed, (don't worry, kids; mom will clean up the kitchen), a chance to read in peace, or perhaps time to indulge in a long, hot bath. Bringing Home the Bacon If you really want to pay back mom for all she's done, get ready to pony up big. A card and some carnations (the official flower of Mother's Day, who knew?) just won't cut it. The cost of replacing mom as nurturer, nurse, cleaner and cook -- according to Insure.com's 2014 Mother's Day salary index -- would run you $62,985 a year, up from $59,862 in 2013. Breaking down the price of having someone else handle her various duties: Cooking and cleaning, $12,230 Child care, $21,736 Homework help, $7,290 Chauffeur, $5,672 Shopping, yard work, party and activity planning, finances, etc., $15,019 And my personal favorite, finding out what the kids are up to (paid in the equivalent value of a private detective), $1,036. Salary.com placed a higher value on moms in its 2014 Mother's Day salary survey, concluding that stay-at-home moms were worth $118,905 and working moms worth $70,107 (this does not include any paid salary from their job), with both groups putting more than 56 hours of overtime at home. These numbers are all up from last year's survey. Cooking It Up in a Pan Mom helps to pay for other things, too. Thanks to the Department of Agriculture, you can see what it costs to raise a child in the U.S. to 18. As of August 2013, the average cost is $241,080. This does not cover college, and hopefully dear old dad is contributing. In 2012, there were 10.3 million single U.S. mothers with children under 18, and one-third of women who gave birth in 2012 were single moms. By becoming moms, women give up time to do other things, what economists call an "opportunity cost." Particularly if your mother st

Steve Mack/FilmMagic There was no shortage of wonders of blunders even in this holiday-shortened market week. From a retailer's gadget going cold to some jewelers just starting to heat up, here's a rundown of the week's smartest moves and biggest errors in the business world. Men's Wearhouse (MW) -- Loser Jos. A. Bank (JOSB) tried to acquire the larger Men's Wearhouse a few weeks ago. It didn't pan out, and now Men's Wearhouse has made an offer to buy Jos. A. Bank. This is technically a smart move, especially since the two companies should be able to realize some serious cost savings as a combined entity. However, this still is being scored as a blunder because Men's Wearhouse originally balked at Jos. A. Bank's buyout at least partially on the grounds that antitrust regulators would not allow it to take place. Now it has to eat its words. Yahoo! (YHOO) -- Winner Yahoo! announced on Monday that Katie Couric will be joining the meandering dot-com giant as its global anchor next year. She will help develop the coverage at Yahoo News, giving the Web giant some welcome street cred in reporting circles. Couric won't be leaving TV. She plans to continue hosing her syndicated daytime take show -- Katie -- that runs through ABC News. Yahoo! has struggled with online advertising growth lately, and Couric's presence should help increase what it can milk out of advertisers. The Nook -- Loser Barnes & Noble (BKS) posted disappointing quarterly results, but the real culprit here was a sharp drop in sales for the struggling bookseller's Nook e-reader and tablet lines. Shares of Barnes & Noble slipped after reporting a 32 percent plunge in Nook sales. The slide over the past year consists of a 41 percent decline in device and accessories and an even more problematic 21 percent drop in digital content. After all, it's one thing if no one's buying new Nooks, but it's even more troublesome if the wider usage base is buying less digital content. Jewelry -- Winne

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images SEATTLE -- The U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission charged two Seattle men Thursday with 35 counts of illegally trading on private Microsoft information, which prosecutors said netted the pair more than $390,000 in illicit profits over an 18-month period. Brian Jorgenson, a senior portfolio manager at Microsoft (MSFT), passed information to a former colleague, online day trader Sean Stokke, who executed the trades, according to prosecutors. According to complaints filed by the department and the SEC, the scheme began in April 2012 when Jorgenson, 32, found out through his job in Microsoft's treasury department that the software company was planning a multimillion dollar investment in the digital business of bookseller Barnes & Noble (BKS). He passed that information to Stokke, now 28, who bought options betting that Barnes & Noble stock would rise. It jumped about 50 percent when the investment was announced in late April, reaping Stokke profit of more than $184,000, prosecutors said. Stokke, who had previously worked with Jorgenson at an asset management company, then shared his profits with him via envelopes stuffed with $10,000 in cash, according to the charges, which resulted from probes by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the SEC. The pair repeated a similar process twice more in the following 18 months, prosecutors said, by buying options on Microsoft stock or an exchange-traded fund prior to earnings that Jorgenson knew would surprise Wall Street. Together, the two men took in another $208,000 in profit from the trades, according to the SEC complaint, which indicated they planned to start their own hedge fund. The Justice Department's insider trading charges are criminal and could result in up to 20 years in prison and $5 million in fines for both men. The SEC's charges are civil and call for financial penalties and the return of illegally gained profit.

Ulta Salon (NASDAQ: ULTA  ) has soared 15.6% after it released favorable results, including same-store sales gains of 6.7% and a 23% increase in overall revenue. Somewhat weak guidance for the current quarter wasn't enough to slow the stock's advance. Meanwhile, Cooper Tire (NYSE: CTB  ) launched 40% higher after getting a $35 per-share buyout bid from Indian company Apollo Tyres. If companies see value even as the stock market pauses or corrects, then further acquisition activity could well spur the market's bull run onward.

Top 5 Healthcare Equipment Stocks To Own For 2014

The Federal Trade Commission's concerns surrounding General Electric's (NYSE: GE  ) bid to acquire the aviation unit of Italy-based Avio were mitigated following discussions involving GE, Avio, and Pratt & Whitney, clearing the way for the acquisition to be completed, the FTC announced recently.

At issue with the FTC is an existing agreement between Avio's aviation unit and Pratt & Whitney to supply an aircraft engine component called an accessory gearbox, or AGB, for Pratt and Whitney's PW1100G engine. As the only supplier of the AGB, the acquisition of Avio's aviation unit would give GE "the ability and incentive to disrupt the design and certification of Avio's AGB for the PW1100G engine," the FTC commented.

Parts of the new agreement among GE, Avio, and Pratt & Whitney, along with Pratt & Whitney's existing contract with Avio, will be included in the FTC's proposed settlement. The FTC settlement is subject to a 30-day public comment period, which ends Aug. 19, after which it will "decide whether to make the proposed consent order final," according to the FTC.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The reason for the disconnect between earnings and stock performance has to do with the changing fundamentals for shipping overall. For years, shipping companies both on the dry-bulk and the tanker side of the industry have suffered from weakness in the global economy after having built huge numbers of new ships during better times. That forced Overseas Shipholding Group to seek bankruptcy protection late last year and has left tanker giant Frontline (NYSE: FRO  ) under considerable financial pressure as it continues to labor under a substantial debt load.

One equity that falls under the small-cap umbrella, and looks poised to benefit from a contrarian boon is shipping concern Frontline Ltd. (FRO).

Shares of Frontline have more than doubled in value since hitting a decade-plus low of $1.71 last May. In fact, the stock tagged a new annual high of $5.18 in early January.
