Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Matt DiLallo]

I'm convinced that he's right to be bullish on LINN. I've been an investor in the company practically since it went public in 2006. The recent negativity on the company will eventually blow over, as it always does after these "bear raids" end. The biggest form of uncertainty is that these negative attacks have pulled in the SEC to investigate. That's putting the complex merger involving LINN, its affiliate LinnCo (NASDAQ: LNCO  ) and Berry Petroleum (NYSE: BRY  ) on shaky ground.

Best Financial Stocks To Watch Right Now

Most financial advisers agree by now that a strong online presence starts with a well-designed website.

“Websites are definitely becoming simpler,” said Kristen Luke, president and chief executive of Wealth Management Marketing Inc., noting that advisers should seek to focus on the client and provide “a call to action” that offers the next step to take in terms of financial planning.

She also recommends firms use video (“It's easier to watch a video on a mobile phone than to read text,” she said) and start a blog, which helps with search engine optimization.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By MBM Research]

Stock markets have shown a late-summer pullback off of their long-term (and even record) highs, as bullish investors sell late and capture some of their profits. Adding to the downside pressure is the market uncertainty that is created by geopolitical concerns in areas like the Ukraine, Gaza, and Iraq. These tensions affect all areas of the world, so it is not surprising to see declines in developed markets -- ie. the SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF (SPY) and the iShares S&P Europe 350 Index (IEV) -- but also in emerging markets as well. This means the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Asia ETF (EEM) has also been unable to escape the selling pressure. Here, we look at the latest technical developments in the broad regional stock measures: SPY, IEV, EEM.

Best Financial Stocks To Watch Right Now: Eaton Vance Corporation (EV)

Eaton Vance Corp., through its subsidiaries, engages in the creation, marketing, and management of investment funds in the United States. It also provides investment management and counseling services to institutions and individuals. Further, the company operates as an adviser and distributor of investment companies and separate accounts. As of October 31, 2004, the company provided investment advisory or administration services to approximately 150 funds; approximately 1,300 separately managed individual and institutional accounts; and participated in approximately 40 retail-managed account broker/dealer programs. It markets and distributes shares of funds through a retail network of national and regional broker/dealers, banks, insurance companies, and financial planning firms. Eaton Vance Corp. was founded in 1944 and is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

An even more interesting proposal came from Eaton Vance (NYSE: EV  ) earlier this year, which asked the SEC to allow it to create what it calls an exchange-traded managed fund. Ideally, Eaton Vance would like to see the SEC allow it not to make daily disclosure of its holdings, with the company seeking to use what's known as NAV-based trading to help facilitate trade. With NAV-based trading, investors would agree to pay not a fixed dollar value for shares but rather a variable price above or below whatever turns out to be the day's final net asset value for the ETF's assets. Eaton Vance hopes that such an idea would satisfy any concerns about lack of daily disclosure of holdings while still allowing efficient intraday trading. Given that the SEC allows mutual funds to disclose holdings as infrequently as once per quarter -- with a lag allowed between the end of each quarter and the filing date -- it's not unreasonable to expect active ETFs eventually to get similar treatment.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Don't get me wrong - it's fun to be right. There's such a thing as being too right (or at least too right, too fast) though, and when that happens, the smart thing to do is, well do something about it. Case ! in point? I was right yesterday about Neurometrix Inc. (NASDAQ:NURO). I suggested the stock was already in the midst of a breakout, and NURO was poised to soar. I didn't count on this morning's big jump and subsequent gap, however, so now that my risk of continuing to hold it is as big as my potential reward from here, I and anybody else who followed my lead has a tough decision to make... though I've already made mine.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

My recent love affair with Neurometrix Inc. (NASDAQ:NURO) hasn't exactly been a veiled secret. I first pointed out this diabetes-diagnostics stock was working on a technical breakout effort in early October, and I penned two more bullish-progress reports on NURO in November. Yet, the Neurometrix rally is still in its infancy, when you take a step back and look at the bigger weekly chart.

Top Shipping Stocks To Own For 2015: Coldwater Creek Inc. (CWTR)

Coldwater Creek Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as a multi-channel specialty retailer of women's apparel, accessories, jewelry, and gift items primarily in the United States. It operates premium retail stores located in traditional malls, lifestyle centers, and street locations; merchandise outlet stores; and day spas, which offer spa treatments, including massages, facials, body treatments, manicures, and pedicures, as well as provide relevant apparel and personal care products. The company also offers its products through its e-commerce Web site coldwatercreek.com and catalogs, as well as through phone and mail. As of October 27, 2012, it operated 354 premium retail stores and 38 factory outlet stores, as well as 9 spas. The company was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another earnings short-squeeze prospect is specialty retailer of women's apparel, accessories, jewelry and gift items Coldwater Creek (CWTR), which is set to release numbers Tuesday after the market close. Wall Street analysts, on average, expect Coldwater Creek to report revenue of $162.81 million on a loss of 63 cents per share.

The current short interest as a percentage of the float for Coldwater Creek is very high at 18.8%. That means that out of the 12.17 million shares in the tradable float, 3.47 million shares are sold short by the bears. This is a big short interest on a stock with a very low tradable float. If the bulls get the earnings news they're looking for, then this stock could easily explode higher post-earnings.

From a technical perspective, CWTR is currently trending just below its 50-day moving average and well below its 200-day moving average, which is bearish. This stock has been trending sideways for the last two months, with shares moving between $2.16 on the downside and $2.80 on the upside. A high-volume move! above the upper-end of its recent range could trigger a breakout trade for CWTR post-earnings.

If you're bullish on CWTR, then I would wait until after its report and look for long-biased trades if this stock manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.51 to $2.69 a share and then once it takes out more resistance at $2.80 a share with high volume. Look for volume on that move that hits near or above its three-month average action of 192,994 shares. If that breakout hits, then CWTR will set up to re-fill some of its previous gap down zone from June that started near $3.60 a share.

I would simply avoid CWTR or look for short-biased trades if after earnings it fails to trigger that breakout, and then drops back below some key near-term support levels at $2.35 to its 52-week low at $2.16 a share with high volume. If we get that move, then CWTR will set up to enter new 52-wee

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) needs to look over its shoulder. For that matter, Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (NYSE:LGF) may want to do the same. There's a little company called Independent Film Development Corporation (OTCMKTS:IFLM) that could become a big threat to both of those major players soon, now that a nagging monkey is officially off its back.

Theme park stocks Cedar Fair, L.P. What do you get when you cross the theme park division of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), zombies, aliens, Bigfoot, and a resort? You get a very fun - and very intense - vacation experience. You get a company called Independent Film Development Corporation (OTCMKTS:IFLM). And if you're an investor, you may also get a pretty decent payback period once the called Independent Film Development Corporation - aka IndyFilmCorp - is fully up and running with the first of what it expects to be several fear-focused theme parks that meet the new consumers "needs and wants" that Disney doesn't.

(NYSE:SEAS), Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSK), and pretty soon, the Independent Film Development Corporation (OTCMKTS:IFLM). These organizations exist to keep their finger on the pulse of what makes entertainment-seeking consumers want, and it's clear from some of the programming choices and decisions these companies are making - and doing well with - that the companies who deliver the new, edgier product stand to earn the most revenue for doing so.

christianz1969/Flickr Americans lately have been transferring their love of fast-casual restaurant food to stocks of companies in the segment. Late last month, "better burger" specialist The Habit Restaurants (HABT) launched an initial public offering that doubled in price within hours of hitting the market. Like a meal from one of The Habit's more traditional fast-food rivals, though, the feeling of satisfaction didn't last: The shares started to drop after the initial euphoria. IPOh Yes IPOs of fast-casual chain operators are coming to the market faster than you can get a refill at a soda machine. This year alone has seen the market debut not only of The Habit, but also the Mediterranean-flavored Zoe's Kitchen (ZOES) and West Coast chicken griller El Pollo Loco Holdings (LOCO), among others. Like The Habit, the stocks of the latter two saw impressive first-day rises (although they didn't pop quite as high as those of the burger purveyor). Why the excitement? Some of it can certainly be ascribed to the IPO market itself, which has had a frothy year. As of this writing, 262 companies have gone public, a 25 percent rise over the same period of 2013. In terms of total proceeds from IPOs, 2014 is set to be the best year for at least the past decade. Building a Better Burrito But likely a bigger factor is that the fast-casual segment has one great model that investors are hoping the newcomers can at least partially replicate -- Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG). Since going public in 2006, the stock of the now-ubiquitous chain has gone through the roof. Its IPO was priced at $22 a share and doubled in its first day of trading. Since then, its shares have ballooned -- at the moment, they trade at nearly $660, for a hard-to-believe 2,900-plus-percent rise from the issue price. It's not t

    Thursday's Volume: 589,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 188,505

    Volume % Change: 201%

From a technical perspective, STSA bounced modestly higher here right above its 50-day moving average of $25.61 with above-average volume. This move is quickly pushing shares of STSA within range of triggering a big breakout trade. That trade will hit if STSA manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $27.47 to its 52-week high at $27.57 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in STSA as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $25.61 or above more near-term support at $25, and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 188,505 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then STSA will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $30 to $32.50.

Bill Ackman continued attacks on Herbalife (HLF) and the FBI’s investigation into its business practices have hurt most stocks even remotely related to the health drink maker. Until the matter is cleared up, all of these stocks should be considered dead money. Even market darlings such as Whole Foods (WFM) and Hain Celestial Group (HAIN) are badly lagging the overall markets. While the healthy lifestyle trend continues, it seems investors have generally grown tired of it. Like all cyclical businesses, it might be some time before investor enthusiasm returns.
